Manufacturer: Virbac (Australia) Pty Limited Registered Name Feliway Diffuser Analogue of Feline Facial Pheromone Composition Synthetic analogue of the F3 fraction of feline facial pheromone 16.5 mg/mL. Actions Cats rub their faces on objects to mark them with their facial pheromones. This process is called ‘bunting’, and is a method of identifying surroundings so that they are familiar to the cat. The feline pheromones deposited by facial marking exhibit a calming and settling effect on cats. Observations by animal behaviourists have shown that cats do not urine mark or scratch objects previously marked with feline facial pheromones. The three major functions of facial pheromones include: spatial orientation function (to enable identification of the cat's territory by facial pheromone marking of the major objects within the area); relational function (cats who share part of their territory with other cats will rub each other to produce a distinctive scent that identifies them as belonging to the group); and calming function (facial pheromone marking of an unfamiliar area has a direct calming effect on a newly introduced cat, facilitating the settling in and familarisation process). Feliway® aids in alleviating signs associated with fear and stress in kittens and cats. These stressful situations can include new environments, adoption, new arrivals and overcrowding. Indications Reactions expressed by cats to stressful situations that may benefit from the use of Feliway® Diffuser are urine marking, vertical scratching, loss of appetite, and a reduced desire to play and interact.
